A nanometre (American English: nanometer, symbol nm) (Greek language: νάνος, nanos, dwarf; μετρώ, metrό, count) is a Units of measurement of length in the metric system, equal to one billionth of a metre, which is the current International System of Units SI base unit of length. It can be written in scientific notations as 1×10−9 m (engineering notation) or (exponential notation) — both meaning .

It is also the most common unit used to describe the manufacturing technology used in the semiconductor industry.

Nanometry is the science of counting and measuring particles on the scale of nanometres.
